Production Supervisor

Job Description:

2nd shift Production Supervisor opening for a fresh-cut produce manufacturing facility located on California's central coast.
Purpose of Position: To lead and supervise a team of production associates to meet production daily goals. Areas of responsibility includes but not limited to: employee safety, food safety, production efficiency, sanitation, material handling of raw product to the production lines. The ideal candidate is expected to understand and deliver production KPI's, work well in a diverse environment, motive a team and promote continuous improvement measure. Must be flexible with shift schedule. Bi-lingual SPanish - English is desireable.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Train, directs and supports the crew leads to motive and drive results among the production associates
  • Responsible for on-time start up and/or shutdown of daily production run.
  • Analyze and report out of production data
  • Communicates and implements policies and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Handle safety, personnel and plant operational issues per company protocol and know when to escalate issues to management.
  • Responsible for OSHA compliance and for safety and welfare of all employees on shift
  • Responsible for compliance to FSMA standards on shift
  • Coordinate with Human Resources regarding critical personnel issues.
  • Lead the team on continuous improvement initiatives
  • Recommend and implement safety corrective actions for unsafe conditions and unsafe behavior
  • Report work related injuries & illnesses and conduct accident investigations
  • Ensure conformance to PPE requirements and safety policies and procedures such as LOTO.
  • Oversee training of new hires to include job expectations
  • Monitor employee performance and set expectations
  • Monitor Down time, identify triggers and tactics to reduce controllable causes to improve line efficiencies.
  • Train crew leads to understand KPI's and implement goals and objectives for leaders to obtain results.
  • Monitor yields for all commodities and labor efficiencies.
  • Implement goals and objects for crew leads and Machine Operators
  • Work with supply chain Manager to adhere to schedule attainment
  • Work with quality department to address quality issues
  • Monitor and train staff that all finished product is labeled correctly, handled and packaged correctly

    Sanitation and Food Safety

    • Ensure proper sanitation is conducted during change overs and proper checks are conducted
    • Work with quality department to address quality issues
    • Ensure conformance to GMP's, HACCP Program, Metal Detector checks, and customer specifications


      • Work with maintenance to identify and troubleshoot critical maintenance related issues
      • Process work orders as needed
      • Ensure priority maintenance work is completed in a timely manner to minimize down-time issues and unsafe conditions related to equipment.

        Knowledge and Skills

        • Bachelor's Degree is preferred; high school diploma or equivalent is required.
        • 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role in a production / manufacturing environment is required.
        • Knowledge of applicable government regulations including but not limited to GMP's, HACCP, and FDA regulations and FSMA standards

          • Excellent Computer skills using Microsoft Office Applications
          • Experience using ERP systems
          • Must demonstrate excellent judgement and decision-making abilities
          • Must be able to work independently and with ambiguity
          • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles is a plus
          • Working knowledge of employment law and California wage & hour regulations
          • Knowledge of OSHA Regulations
          • Ability to work under pressure and multitask and set priorities.
          • Excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills. Bi-lingual (Spanish / English) is recommended.
          • Ability to multi-task and utilize resources in order to execute tasks within a fast-paced production environment.

            Physical Demands (Walking, lifting, equipment, operation)

            • Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
            • Must be flexible with work hours/days
            • Must be able to grasp, grip, and reach with hands and arms
            • Must be able to climb stairs
            • Must be able to work nights, some weekends and some holidays
