additional companies. Today, Rantec Power Systems is a designer and
manufacturer of military and aerospace electronic products for
Tier-1 markets. An engineered solution company, Rantec has
expertise in all aspects of design, manufacturing, and test.
Product focus areas include:
- MILITARY CUSTOM LOW VOLTAGE - Power supplies designed to
specification for tactical applications/harsh environments.
- MILITARY STANDARD PRODUCT - VME and VPX integrated
- COMMERCIAL AEROSPACE - High voltage power supplies for cockpit
CRT displays applications.
- LEGACY - Spares, assemblies, and components for legacy
platforms where Rantec is the OEM.Rantec customers are Tier 1

delivery and quality. Rantec intends to hire a Chief of Test,
reporting to the Director of Engineering.
ScopeThe Principal Test Engineer will be responsible for the
overall test strategy and will provide technical guidance and
leadership to Test Engineering, flowing information to Senior
Leadership. They will perform and oversee all test engineering
activities at Rantec to include; software development testing,
hardware test, qualification testing, production testing, test
equipment definition and fabrication, test scope in proposals,
design reviews, project planning and product development. They will
have overall leadership for on-time completion for test efforts and
will report to the Director of Engineering.
Performance Objectives:To achieve the mission for this position,
the Principal Test Engineer must produce the following critical
actions and results:
Test Strategy and Leadership: Responsible for overall test strategy
and architecture at Rantec. The Principal of Test will be
responsible for the Master Test Plans of each program. The strategy
will include all aspects of test including software, hardware,
qualification, production test and test equipment. Define and
oversee development of test equipment to meet program deliverables
timely. Develop and maintain applicable Operating Procedures and
Instructions under the AS9100 management system.
Program Execution and Management: Drive programs with the team,
ensuring the team's roadblocks are addressed and key project
actions are completed within the timeline using strong technical
background. Earned Value techniques will be used to track the
integration and maturity of Rantec's products. Earned value
techniques including scoping out and tracking progress against
integration and test efforts to include problem resolution and
maturing a development product. The Principal of Test will be
responsible for budgeting and execution to the plan for test.
Test Equipment Development: The Principal of Test will provide
technical guidance and solutions to difficult test challenges. They
will give input into integration and performance timelines. They
will work closely with the team to ensure integration and test
performance is complete against customer requirements and will
review risks to the programs (earned value, schedule, and
performance). The Principal of Test will establish test engineering
standard design guidelines/processes and provide guidance to
Engineering on Design for Test. They will assess development of
test programs and equipment, participating in design reviews,
product development and general product concepts. They will be key
in development of new and innovate design strategies to reduce
costs and improve production test performance.
Team Management: This position will select, develop, manage, and
evaluate personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the Test
Engineering Team and timely adherence to project deliverables. They
will ensure there is sufficient support to sustain engineering
activities. They will participate in budget preparation and
management. They will provide input and/or present at the annual
strategic planning conference.This position will provide technical,
programmatic and product improvement guidance and leadership to
direct reports. They will help the team in development and
revisions of design guidelines, design criteria and standard
practices under the Rantec AS9100 Management System Procedures. For
the Team, they will establish goals for direct reports and evaluate
individual performance against those goals.
Hiring: Hiring additional Department support to include; Test
Engineer, Test Engineering Technicians and other Test resources
needed to fully support the team.
Background and Experience:The ideal candidate will have the
following education, work history, knowledge, and skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineer. Master's in
- Minimum 10 years engineering experience with electronics,
components, systems, and subsystems specifically related to power
- Defense experience required. Aerospace experience preferred.
Experience in a technical leadership role of a multi-disciplined
Knowledge and skills - Must have the following:
- Working knowledge of open architecture software development and
- Strong knowledge of test software developing with LabVIEW.
- Working knowledge of advanced engineering design and analysis
tools (Altium, Solidworks)
- Ability to define requirements for test equipment and oversee
development of equipment.
- Integration and test experience with electronic systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting skills and Root Cause Analysis.
- Understanding and working knowledge of switch mode power
converters. Knowledge of AC/DC rectification methods and system
- Applicant must be able to develop efficient test techniques to
prove product designs that are on the cutting edge of technology in
the areas of high current, high power, low voltage, high
efficiency, high density.
- Willing to fully relocate to Los Osos, CA.
- Due to contracts with the United States Government, candidates
must be either US Citizens, US Permanent Resident or able to obtain
the necessary export authorization license.
