Responsibilities
About this Position In keeping with the Marian Medical Center
health care philosophy, the Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) functions
collaboratively and uses independent judgment to provide high
quality care by assuring appropriate staffing on a shift basis or
more as indicated by patient acuity and census. Is accountable for
unit operations, supervision, staff development, patient care
delivery and clinical outcomes on assigned shifts. Is responsible
for providing clinical nursing leadership to unit staff and may
provide direct patient care. Develops, revises and ensures
compliance with hospital/departmental policies/procedures,
standards of patient care and professional practice acts. Serves as
a role model by providing leadership expertise and serves as a
clinical resource for assigned areas and for other members of the
interdisciplinary healthcare team. Contributes to the quality of
patient care standards and outcomes utilizing the elements of the
Nursing Bundle. -Conducts leadership rounding and coaching ensuring
staff compliance with the Nursing Bundle elements, documents and
activities. Utilizes and promotes the use of Service Excellence
Principles and AIDET as part of daily practices. Utilizes
competency and leadership tools to document results. Assures
continuity of care by working collaboratively with the
interdisciplinary health care team, patient, family and significant
others. Dialogues with physician team concerning changes in the
plan of care and discharge planning. Assess and evaluates the
clinical plan of care across the continuum. Participates in hiring,
coaching, counseling, and terminations for assigned areas of
responsibility. Participates in the annual evaluation of the
department and leadership direction in collaboration with the
Department Director and Vice President of Patient Care Services.
Quality Improvement Monitors patient care outcomes to ensure
optimum utilization of Quality Improvement methodology, while
maximizing utilization of all available resources. Supports quality
improvement and utilization while balancing financial resources to
achieve quality of care. -Documents results as directed by
department director. Participates in hospital and nursing
committees and meetings as directed. Regulatory/Compliance;
Promotes compliance with hospital/departmental legal, safety,
environmental, education, infection control and regulatory agency
standards. Is well versed in understanding expectations and can
articulate requirements. Promotes staffing compliance and delivery
of care, matching staff assignments with patient care needs.
Utilizes Best Practice and substantiated research to develop
department specific programs. Evaluates the quality and
effectiveness of care for the department specific patient
population. Demonstrates compliance and understanding of Human
Resource policies, procedures and programs. Budget/Productivity;
Assists Department Director to ensure fiscal responsibility and
budget accountability. Monitors staffing to achieve productivity
standards, making adjustments throughout the shift, based on census
and patient care needs in collaboration with the nurse staffing
office and/or department director. -Promotes stewardship by
identifying potential savings in staffing/materials usage and
brings to director's attention. Contributes to setting and
achieving departmental goals and objectives that are consistent
with the organization's strategic business plan. Provides accurate
and timely staff schedules. Uses Ceridian and Lawson supply
management in conjunction with the department director. Staff
Development Contributes to the planning of staff development and
educational opportunities and assumes responsibility for members of
the care team. Documents staff competency on an ongoing basis and
provides coaching as required. Coordinates annual skills labs and
collaborates with the education department for ongoing staff
education needs. Contributes to the education of new staff ensuring
timely completion of orientation, evaluation of department/role
competencies, and provides ongoing feedback and support to new
employees. Contributes clinical expertise to the selection of
patient care equipment/products based on market research and
current industry trends. Ensures staff competency on new products.

Control Plan). -Demonstrates knowledge of and follows safety
practices, including patient safety and National Patient Safety
Goals (NPSG). Understands the importance of safety in the work
place. Maintains a safe environment for self and others.
Demonstrates leadership priority for organizational performance
improvement in patient satisfaction/safety programs. Establishes
and maintains a culture of patient safety throughout the Medical
Center. Promotes patient safety by recognizing and reducing risks
and hazardous conditions that result in medical/healthcare errors
and patient injury. Demonstrates advocacy for the patient/customer
and appropriately acknowledges patients, customers and visitors.
Complies with the event reporting process, supporting a strong
internal non-punitive reporting mechanism. Promotes communication
and coordination among individuals and departments to minimize risk
to patients as appropriate. Understands and complies with
accreditation and regulatory requirements and internal processes
regarding responding to Sentinel Events. In addition, performs
