Overview

Marian Regional Medical Center, located in Santa Maria, California, is rated among the top 10% in the nation for cardiac care, and is a designated STEMI Receiving Center (ST Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction) in Santa Barbara County. Santa Barbara County STEMI receiving programs earned the Silver Award from the American Heart Association for excellence in patient care. Marian has achieved prestigious designation as a Primary Stroke Center by the Joint Commission. In addition, Marian has received the Healthgrades Distinguished Hospital Clinical Excellence Award. The medical center's cancer program is distinguished as the only comprehensive Community Cancer Center on the Central Coast. The need to meet the demand for quality, technologically-advanced care for a growing community led Marian to open its doors to a new state-of-the-art, 191-bed facility in the spring of 2012. The new facility houses the largest and most comprehensive perinatology/neonatology program on the Central Coast providing the most compassionate, quality care to the littlest of patients.

Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Vice President of HomeCare and Hospice Services and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team of Marian Hospital staff and physicians, this position is charged with developing, implementing, and evaluating palliative care and Hospice services to seriously ill and dying patients in both the hospital and community-based setting. These services will meet regulatory and fiscal requirements. Included in this responsibility is developing and maintaining strong relationships with physicians, hospital staff, community stakeholders, and system peers to deliver palliative, comfort care to seriously ill and dying patients. Specific duties may include participation in quality improvement activities; formal and informal education and support to staff, patients and their families; consultation on complex cases; appropriateness of care or level of care / utilization activities; liaison to internal and external contacts / committees / programs; compliance with regulatory / accreditation agencies, program development, facilitation and leadership. In addition, this position is responsible for working with patients' and families' hospital liaison and case management staff and physicians in assisting with decision making / problem solving and determining appropriateness for palliative care/Hospice services. Ensures compliance with JCAHO and state/federal regulations.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience or a comparable combination of education and experience required.
  • AA Degree in nursing required
  • Current California License as an RN. National Hospice and Palliative Care certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of clinical standards for hospice and palliative care practice.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Palliative care and / or Hospice programs is highly desirable.
  • BSN preferred
