Job Summary:

Responsible for the accomplishment of regional goals, objectives and timelines require by the program. This involves providing information, training, resources and emotional support to families of children with special needs. Providing support and training to the professionals on where, when and how to access educational services for those families. Work with community based programs to establish and maintain training's at those facilities. Maintain accurate records of all contracts with families and professionals. Support the growth of the parent leadership in education and systems changes.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct outreach activities and training within the assigned region.
  • Provide individual assistance to families, assess the needs of the family, and provide guidance, training and Individual Education Plan (IEP) clinics.
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge related to special education and other laws related to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and American's with Disability Act (ADA), educational strategies, assessment, conflict resolution and other process related to accessing educational services.
  • Identify training needs based on programs priorities. Locate training facilities in the assigned region. Work with outreach personnel to schedule trainings and support marketing efforts. Prepare PowerPoint presentations and all material related to the training including training evaluation forms.
  • Responsible to collect, summarize and report all data and information required by program.
  • Provide quality services based on program standards.
  • Continue skill development related to job responsibilities by attending approved training's and participation in the development and achievement of the program, department and personal goals.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends when required.
  • Position requires data entry, answer phones and various computer activities.
  • Position requires occasional overnight travel.
  • The position requires the ability to meet with children/families outside of the EPU Center. In order to meet this expectation staff are required to have reliable transportation for local travel.
  • Must hold valid California Driver's license and good driving record with no serious violations for the previous two-year period and be able to provide proof of current automobile liability insurance.
  • EPU facility hours are Monday Friday; 8:30 AM 5:00 PM.
  • Must perform other duties as they are assigned by the Manager, Director or Chief Executive Officer.

The current opening is for a part-time 20 hour and is not eligible for benefits.

The pay rate for this position is between $16.00 - $17.00 per hour depending on experience.

Knowledge, Skill and Experience:

Education: Must hold a Bachelor's degree in Social Services, Special Education or other related field or demonstrate knowledge through comparable work experience. Prefer a parent or close family member of a child with special health care, developmental or emotional challenges.

Skills: Must have strong communication skills both written and verbal, able to make independent decisions within guidelines, accept responsibility, dependable, reliable, time management, committed, highly motivated, professional code of ethics and professional demeanor, must be adaptable, use good judgement, logic skills, are self-confident, capable.


  • 2+ years' experience working with families of special needs and special education children.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish or Hmong preferred.
  • Experience as a Trainer implementing best practices in training adults.
  • Knowledge of regional community resources available for children with disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of MicroSoft Office products.
  • Must hold valid California Driver's license and good driving record with no serious violations for the previous two-year period and be able to provide proof of current automobile liability insurance.

Physical Demands:

Typical Working Condition: Staff is required to travel to assigned region and working out of community resource facilities. EPU does not have control over the location and condition of all the environments staff may be exposed.

Equipment Used: Personal vehicle for transportation to meetings in the local area, computers, printers, telephones, and fax machines.

Essential Physical Tasks: Must be able to sit for long periods of time, working with a keyboard, computer screen.
