OVERVIEW OF RANTEC:

Rantec Power Systems is a designer and manufacturer of military and aerospace electronic products for Tier-1 markets. An engineered solution company, Rantec has expertise in all aspects of design, manufacturing and test. Product focus areas include:

  • MILITARY CUSTOM LOW VOLTAGE - Power supplies designed to specification for tactical applications/harsh environments.
  • MILITARY STANDARD PRODUCT - VME and VPX integrated solutions.
  • COMMERCIAL AEROSPACE - High voltage power supplies for cockpit CRT displays applications.
  • LEGACY Spares, assemblies and components for legacy platforms where Rantec is the OEM.

Rantec customers are Tier 1 aerospace and defense contractors who value commitment and performance. Rantec is a preferred supplier to many, and regularly recognized for its exceptional technical performance, on-time- delivery and quality.

SCOPE OF OPERATION:

The VPBD will lead new business development and direct the management of the entire portfolio of established accounts, approximately 25 customers in total. The current team (totaling 8) directly reporting to the VPBD will include 1 Director of Business Development, 1 Manager of Accounts, 4 Account Managers, 1 Contracts Administrator and 1 Market Research/Analyst.

MISSION:

The VPBD will manage all current customers of Rantec business, develop opportunities for follow-on business with current accounts, and manage business development to pursue new customers and new opportunities.

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

To achieve the mission for this position, the VPBD must produce the following critical actions and results:

  1. Securing Follow-on Business: Deepen and expand relationships with established customers to improve pursuit of follow-on programs and new business. Extend relationships vertically (to higher level leadership and Program Management at customers) and laterally (into new program areas and departments), with a goal of identifying new opportunities not previously in consideration.
  1. Pursue New Business: The VPBD will ensure his team hasa strategic and tactical plan to pursue new customers.
  1. Customer Scorecard Results: Improve overall customer scorecard results. This will include the following actions:
    1. Improve overall reliability and responsiveness, including all communications with customers.
    2. Work with peers in operations and engineering to optimize processes and improve on-time delivery and quality performance.
    3. Bridge customer expectations with in-house capabilities.
  1. Account Analysis: Develop in-depth understanding of each customer (both established and new), their technical development model, upcoming programs, competitors they may also buy from, and budget/program environment. Currently, Rantec is well-established with customers, but there is a trend of customers engaging in dual sourcing, especially for large programs, and the VPBD will be tasked with maintaining the preeminent position with the customer. The VPBD will perform periodic review of accounts and present periodically to RPS Board of Directors. Additionally, through the analysis, the VPBD will provide insight for new markets for current products.
  2. Hiring: Hiring Sales Manager and potentially an additional account manager
  1. Strategic Planning: The VPBD will drive the strategic planning process for the company, aiming at profitable growth and capturing opportunities. The plan may include diversification into other customers, markets, and creation of synergistic product lines. Maintaining knowledge of market trends, competitor actions, product needs, and customer base will be important. Currently, the company has relationships and strategies for prime defense contractors, and other adjacent industries and product applications that support the strategy.
  1. Strategic Partnerships: Develop close relationships as appropriate and in line with strategy with strategic partners by seeking opportunities to co-market products and combine products together into an enhanced technical offering.
  1. Organizational Development: The VPBD will lead a team of account managers. Facilitate growth of account managers by mentoring and coaching, to foster growth within their customer portfolio. Assess the team for strengths, teaching the team necessary skillsets.
  2. Website Management: The VPBD will direct Rantecs overall website presence, and work with the Business Development team on additional marketing communication activities.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION:

The success of the VPBD in achieving the objectives described above will be measured by the following:

  • Increased opportunities with current customers and new customers.
  • Improve performance on customer scorecards with demonstrated improvements in customer responsiveness; and external improvements with customer communication and relationships.
  • Forecasts and projections from account analysis are leading to expansion into other markets, areas of business, and further customer programs.
  • Strategic planning process is implemented and executed consistently across all operations.
  • Strategic partnerships are established that expand the companys ability to win new business.
  • Account management team is well coached and equipped with necessary skillset to improve customer communication.
  • Optimize website performance to favorably position Rantec.

BACKGROUND AND EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate will have the following education, work history, knowledge, and skills.

Education: Bachelors degree, preferably in a technical discipline. Masters, in engineering, or MBA, desired.

Experience: 10 years experience in account or program management. Defense experience required. Aerospace experience preferred. Experience with electronics components, systems, subsystems, is preferred.

Knowledge and skills: Current or previous security clearance preferred. Comfort running programs and running customer accounts. Experience running accounts with prime defense contractors.

Additional Factors:

    • Travel: 15%
    • Willing to fully relocate to Los Osos, CA.
    • Due to contracts with the United States Government, candidates must be either US Citizens,US Permanent Residents or able to obtain the required export license authorization from the U.S. Department of State.

COMPENSATION/BENEFITS:

Market-competitive salary and potential bonus. Benefits include:

    • Medical, dental and vision coverage is offered. The health coverage becomes effective on the first day of the month following completion of 60 days of employment.
    • 401(k) Plan. A qualified retirement savings plan. Currently Rantec makes Safe Harbor matching contributions equal to 100% of employee 401(k) salary deferrals up to 6% of compensation.
    • Flexible Spending Account. Rantec offers employees a Section 125 plan. You may pay for unreimbursed medical expenses and dependent care on a pre-tax basis as a deduction from your bi-weekly paycheck. Enrollment in the plans takes place each December for a January 1st effective date.
    • Supplemental Insurance. Life, disability, and other types of insurance plans are offered to employees through AFLAC. Participation is voluntary, and employees pay 100% of the premium for these plans. Enrollment in these plans takes place each December.
    • Paid Holidays. The holiday schedule is published prior to the start of each fiscal year.
    • Paid Vacation. This position will earn 120 hours (three weeks) per year.
    • 9/80 Work Schedule. The work schedule calls for a 9-hour work day, with alternate Fridays off.
