Job Description Duties JOB OBJECTIVE The Urgent Care Family
Nurse Practitioner (FNP) is responsible for providing direct
patient care to patients within a fast-paced urgent care setting.
The FNP is a professional level position working under limited
direction. Interacts with a multi-cultural population of diverse
socioeconomic backgrounds, ages and levels of education. The FNP
reports to the Chief Medical Officer and to the Health Center
Manager for operational matters. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND
RESPONSIBILITIES The FNP is responsible for performing the
following duties: 1. Performs examinations and provides treatment
for minor injuries and acute illness to adult patients and
children. Type of treatment includes sprains, strains, wound
management, infections, allergies, skin/hair/soft tissue disorders,
among others. 2. Determines abnormal conditions by administering or
ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and
laboratory studies; interprets test results. 3. Performs procedures
such as suturing, splinting, casting, immunizations, injections,
skin lesion removal, etc. 4. Develops and implements patient
management plans, records progress notes and assists in provision
of continuity of care. Refers patients to specialists and to
relevant patient care options as appropriate. 5. Prescribes
medications and treatment regimens as appropriate. 6. Orders,
performs and interprets diagnostic tests such as lab work and
x-rays. 7. Responds to stressful situations in a calm and rational
manner. 8. Counsels' patients and their families on health
promotion, diagnosis and medical management. 9. Behaves in a
professional and empathetic manner in order to build trust with
patients. 10. Participates in the education of patients on disease
prevention and positive health and lifestyle choices. 11. Assists
ancillary staff with the maintenance of clinical competencies and
the promotion of critical thinking skills. 12. Interacts in a
professional manner and works collaboratively with Clinicas’ staff
and patients. - Adheres to and follows established nursing
policies, procedures and practices. - Maintains patient confidence
and protects operations by keeping patient care information
confidential in compliance with HIPAA regulations - Interacts in a
professional manner and works collaboratively with Clinicas’ staff
and patients. - Maintains a professional image. - Provides
excellent customer service to patients, vendors and employees. -
May assist patients with mental illness, substance abuse problems
and or/emotional disturbance. - Due to the nature of the job, may
work with or be exposed to information or material of a sexual
nature. - Performs other duties as assigned including participation
in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency
response team. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS 1. Master
of Nursing degree. 2. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner
program approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing. 3.
Current California State License. 4. Current DEA license with
unrestricted prescription authority. 5. Bilingual in English and
Spanish is preferred but not required. 6. Current BLS for
Healthcare providers certification 7. Previous experience in an
urgent care or emergency department preferred. 8. Ability to
maintain effective organized systems and ensure timely patient
flow. 9. Proficiency with use of computers and programs is
required. Previous experience with Electronic Health Records system
is desirable. 10. Must have the ability to establish effective
relationships with patients and fellow staff. Must be a team player
with professional demeanor, possess a good work ethic, be
self-motivated and a problem solver and take personal pride in own
work. 11. Demonstrate critical thinking and good clinical
judgement. 12. Must be available to work a flexible schedule
including extended shifts, weekends and/or holidays. 13. Maintains
a neat and professional image. Must have reliable
transportation.
