Manage nurseries that grow horticultural plants for sale to trade or retail customers, for display or exhibition, or for research. Manage agricultural or forestry operations. Identify plants as well as problems such as diseases, weeds, and insect pests. Tour work areas to observe work being done, to inspect crops, and to evaluate plant and soil conditions. Monitor facilities or operational systems. Assign work schedules and duties to nursery or greenhouse staff and supervise their work. Supervise employees. Prepare staff schedules or work assignments. Determine plant growing conditions, such as greenhouses, hydroponics, or natural settings, and set planting and care schedules. Manage agricultural or forestry operations. Apply pesticides and fertilizers to plants. Perform manual agricultural, aqua cultural, or horticultural tasks. Hire employees, and train them in gardening techniques. Conduct employee training programs. Hire personnel. Determine types and quantities of horticultural plants to be grown, based on budgets, projected sales volumes, or executive directives. Analyze data to inform operational decisions or activities. Estimate cost or material requirements. Select and purchase seeds, plant nutrients, disease control chemicals, and garden and lawn care equipment. Purchase materials, equipment, or other resources. Explain and enforce safety regulations and policies. Communicate organizational policies and procedures. Position and regulate plant irrigation systems, and program environmental and irrigation control computers. Perform manual agricultural, aqua cultural, or horticultural tasks. Inspect facilities and equipment for signs of disrepair and perform necessary maintenance work. Inspect condition or functioning of facilities or equipment. Perform manual service or maintenance tasks. Coordinate clerical, record-keeping, inventory, requisitioning, and marketing activities. Direct sales, marketing, or customer service activities. Direct administrative or support services. Direct organizational operations, projects, or services. Prepare soil for planting, and plant or transplant seeds, bulbs, and cuttings. Provide information to customers on the care of trees, shrubs, flowers, plants, and lawns. Advise customers on technical or procedural issues. Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Plant Science or Horticulture 5 years' experience in horticulture production Current state pesticide license Bilingual English/Spanish highly preferred
